For myself I have already started shopping online everything from the Friday the 13th boxset from Scream Factory to vampire blood everything from bath and body works. In addition I will be watching 60 days of horror movies. Kicking it off with Countess Dracula although I definitely thought I was going to watch Day of the Dead(78). Until I saw the Shudder has it streaming. I love physical media but after a long day of work. Streaming sometimes take priority on what horror I’m watch. That being said, Shudder has pack September full of content.
New to Shudder this week a high school vampire horror movie. While The Shed isn’t going to be the next Buffy The Vampire Slayer. The tale is much darker highlighting the less glofied experience of high school and teenage home life. Stan and his best friend Dommer have put up with bullies their entire lives. All of that changes when Stan discovers he has a ravenous vampire living in his shed. Seeing the bloodshed and destruction the monster is capable of, Stan knows he has to find a way to destroy it. But Dommer has a much more sinister plan in mind.
- Director :Frank Sabatella
- Writer:Frank Sabatella, Jason Rice
- Cast : Jay Jay Warren, Cody Kostro, Sofia Happonen
Sabatella take his time building tension detailing plot mechanisms the set up gory kill after kill. The dialogue between actors seems genuine, like exchanges kids would have. The Shed really is the star of the flim. The efforts that Stan goes through to keep this vampire contained.
The Bad (mild spoilers)
Unfortunately there a couple or plot points that have zero payoff. The audience never finds out what happened to Stan’s parents. Throughout the film we see Stan longing for them but that’s about it. If you’re looking to find out how the vampire came to be in the forrest or new vampiric mythology in general. There’s no explanation offered although, the movie at times makes you film like something bigger going on.
The Shed is a good and gory teenage horror movie. The film does a great job with the cinematography. The story will leave you wanting to know more. Otherwise the movie does some neat things and build tension very well. It’s definitely worth a watch but doubt it will get a rewatch.
